Ephesians 4:17-24

Reflect

Throughout history, there have been shifts in our ways of living that have dramatically changed our daily lives. Technologies like steam power, electricity, and gasoline power have changed the way we travel. The printing press, telephone and internet have changed how we share information.  Going back to literal horsepower and limited means of communicating with the world around us would be a drastic change.

Paul here points out that for a believer to return to a way of life that was lived apart from God would be even more extreme than a return to pre-industrial revolution life. Returning to a lifestyle apart from Jesus would seriously diminish the spiritual growth of a Christ follower. Paul encourages the Ephesians church and us today, “don’t return to a lesser way of life!”. Live your life in the light and truth of Jesus Christ. Allow Him to renew your mind; choose the best way of living that is a life lived following Jesus.

Apply

Are there ways that we return to old patterns and habits which are remnants of a life without Jesus?  In the words of Paul, put off that old self and put on the new self that is created after the likeness of God.
