Galatians 3:15-26
This morning Pastor Melissa will be sharing out of Galatians 3. Paul is trying to help the Galatians see how they are connected to the covenant promises made to Abraham and not, as Gentile believers, responsible to uphold Torah, the Law.
Most employers have a code of conduct which helps guide and shape the ethics and ethos of a company. Employees are required to sign and uphold this code. If one breaks the code, it can result in a warning, a suspension, and even termination of their employment depending on the transgression.
Paul argues here that Torah served its purpose as a guardian or tutor until the Messiah came. It is a code of conduct that no person could uphold 100% of the time. Instead, Jesus came to fulfil the requirements of the Law (Matt 5:17). By faith in Christ, we receive salvation, not by upholding the code. This doesn’t mean that God is not interested in leading us to holy living, but that our salvation is not dependent on meeting a code of conduct. Therefore, our position in the family of God is not terminated by a violation (sin).
Do you feel secure in your salvation in Christ? Or do believe you need to earn and uphold certain requirements to keep your place in the family? Today, we will examine in part how salvation and felt closeness to God are different but interwoven.
