Devotional Guide for Saturday, October 21

Ephesians 5:8-14

Reflect

Light is powerful. Without light we would all be stumbling around in the darkness. Light reveals what is in the darkness. It is a symbol for what is true and holy.

The passage today continues to show us how we as Christians are to live in the world. Verse 8 says that we were once darkness but now we are light in the Lord. Because we are light in the Lord we are to live as children of light and find out what pleases the Lord. There are a lot of people we could live to please. Family, friends, coworkers, and the ever-changing cultural landscape. And while it’s not wrong to want to please the people close to you, we are ultimately called to please the Lord above all else.

I don’t know about you, but that gives me a sense of peace. When faced with difficult decisions or challenges, we can choose to act, speak, and think in ways that please God.
