Devotional Guide for Monday, March 4

Matthew 16:13-20

Reflect

In this passage, Jesus asks the disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Peter responds with, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.”

Jesus knew that what the disciples thought of Him would affect how they would live their lives going forward. Their theology (understanding of God) mattered.

He is the Son of the Living God. He is the Son, the Word which became flesh. Every part of His character and ministry perfectly represented the likeness of Father God.

When we see Jesus, we see God.

Jesus’ question is about witnessing and testifying to God’s life, love and presence in our lives and world. It is less about our intellect and more about our heart. It’s grounded in love more than understanding. It moves us from simply knowing about Jesus to knowing Him. It is a relationship.

Apply

Who do you say that Jesus is? If Jesus Himself were to ask you that question, how would you answer it? And is your life reflecting that answer? What do you really believe about God? What do you believe about Jesus? The answers will determine how you live your life.
