Psalm 72
Reflect
Solomon wrote this psalm asking God to empower him to follow His commands, judge fairly and rule justly on behalf of the poor. Righteousness and justice are the qualities of a great leader. God desires all who rule under Him to be righteous and just.
Think of how the world would change if leaders would commit themselves to these two qualities.
Talking about our government can bring many negative comments and maybe even disagreements. We need to be aware of what we say and not curse our leaders. (James 3:9,10)
Our Wednesday devotions are a reminder to pray for our leaders.
- Pray that they would come to know Jesus, if they don’t already.
- Praying Scripture back: Help our leaders to judge Your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice.(v1,2)
- That God would put godly advisors around them.
- May our leaders’ rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like showers that water the earth (v6,7).
- Bless them: May our nation be blessed by our leaders and we will call our leaders blessed.(v17)
To have a ruler that even prayed and lived like this would be wonderful! We know that all of this is only possible when Jesus returns but until then, when we do our part we can make a difference.
