Devotional Guide for Friday, July 5

Philippians 1:18-26

Reflect

Paul is in quite a dilemma here. Staying on earth would mean fruitful labour for him as he would continue ministering to the people of Philippi, as well as surrounding churches. On the other hand, departing and being with Jesus would lead to everlasting joy in eternity. Who wouldn’t want to be in heaven with Jesus sooner rather than later?

However, Paul’s heart showed that he was willing to put the needs of others above his own personal desires (v25). Paul considered the welfare and joy of other brothers and sisters in Christ more significant than his desire to be with Jesus. By enduring the present, he would be able to spur and assist them in their spiritual growth.

Truly, to live is Christ.

As we walk together in our faith community, let’s consider the spiritual progress and joy of others. Let’s consider the needs of others above our own desires. Many of us long to see the groanings of this world come to an end, but let’s not forget that there is still so much to be done, and many people who need others to walk alongside them in this faith journey.

Truly, to live is Christ.
