Philippians 1:27-30
Reflect
In today’s passage we come across Paul urging the believers to live a live that is worthy of the Gospel of Christ. It’s a phrase that is used elsewhere in Scripture, and on first reading it can be easy to feel like he’s saying that we have to live up to the standards as a way to earn the blessings that the Gospel promises. But it’s actually the opposite that is true. Because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because of what He did for us, because of all that we have received, therefore our lives should match that blessing.
Often, one of the challenges that accompanies this call to live a worthy life is unity with other believers. In the midst of persecution and hardship and suffering, Paul urges us towards unity with our brothers and sisters of the faith; it is only by standing together that we can stand firm in the face of challenge.
So, I’d encourage all of us today to spend some time reflecting on the gift that is the Gospel of Jesus, and ask God if there is any way that our lives can more reflect this reality. Secondly, discern if there’s any way He is calling us to a deeper level of unity with one another.
