Proverbs 6:1-19
Reflect
Verse 16 boldly reveals that God hates. That might be hard for some to receive as we are often told that God is love.
In order to be the God of love, God must also hate. Out of His goodness, God pours out His love. In other words, He blesses. He does this so that the lives of others would be better than otherwise. When something interferes with those blessings being poured out, God hates that. So, God hates idolatry, sexual immorality, inequality, and hypocrisy. Add to the list what we see in today’s passage—lying, or what could be called deceit.
God hates deceit because He is really big on truth. Of course, He is big on truth because it’s one of His primary attributes. He is Truth. Speaking truth is godly.
Contrast that with where deceit comes from. Satan is the Deceiver. So, it is true that when we deceive, we are speaking satanically. A lying heart reveals who controls that heart.
I am really big on us hating deceit as well and speaking the truth in love. I love it when we are kind to one another. That often goes really well; sometimes not so much.
As you launch into this day, how are you checking your motivation as you live either godly or satanically?
What is it that you hate, and how does that align with what God hates? What are you doing about it?
