Proverbs 5:1-23
Reflect
In our time it has become so normal to hear about sex scandals all around us. Politicians, actors, church goers, often church leaders. A good friend of mine walked out on her husband. What a horrifying experience. The hurt and heartbreak that comes with that action was and is unimaginable. No wonder our passage today urges us to pay attention to wisdom!
1) Wisdom – don’t mess up for temporary pleasure! (v.1-10)
Often people don’t see the bigger picture that unfaithfulness in marriage brings. How it jeopardizes all happiness found in a good marriage! And it tears down all previously laid trust.
2) Wisdom to endure discipline (v.11-14)
Culture tells us to have as much fun as possible! Not the Bible! Wise is one who learns early that our feelings, desires and temptations are not a good measure. Sin entangles us easily and we ought to run well in the power of the Holy Spirit (Heb.12:1-3) Life is not a stroll. Often victories come at great cost, but God is there to help us overcome!
3) Wisdom to work on your marriage (v.15-20)
If you are married, be willing to put effort and work into your relationship! Go for counselling in struggles. Go to God in prayer for renewed love for each other!
4) Wisdom to finish well (v.21-23)
Keep your way pure by keeping it according to Gods word. (Psalm 119: 9)
