Proverbs 12:1-14
Reflect
These short axioms are packed with so much content. I read some of them and am challenged. I am baffled by how very corrupt leaders are not overthrown (v7); rather they are worshipped as a national messiah. We are moved to prayer.
Nonetheless, please allow me to direct our focus on verse 1. I recently read a study that said most people live at 40% of their capacity. Healthy relationships challenge us to go to the next step, to be more. To go to where we might otherwise shy away from, or not even be aware that we have what it takes to go there. Have you ever worked out? Maybe on your own, maybe with a trainer? Having someone to push us to do one more rep or pick up the pace, gets us to go beyond what we thought we were capable of. That person helps us to be disciplined. What is true in our workout is also true in every area of our life.

Who challenges you to be better? Would you be open to having a relationship that nudges you to be your best? How do you receive a challenge that does not become competitive or critical; rather it is supportive and constructive? How do you avoid excusing the erosion of excellence?
