Devotional Thought for Wednesday, December 17

1 Peter 1:8-9: “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”

As we live in a world full of distractions, doubts, and difficulties, it can be hard to hear the true message of joy that Advent proclaims. In this passage, Peter reminds us that we should expect trials of many kinds, yet through faith, we are shielded from and refined by these experiences.

In sport, I often tell athletes to trust the process, remembering that every challenge gives them confidence in the path ahead.

In the same way, God invites us to trust His process. Our faith opens the door to a steady assurance in what Christ has already done and what He is still doing in us. As we listen for His voice this Advent, may we learn to trust His way, knowing that even through life’s challenges, He is preparing our hearts for an “inexpressible and glorious joy” that fills us with His glory and points us toward the salvation of our souls.
