Devotional Guide for Thursday, July 28

2 Chronicles 20:31-21:3

Reflect

Today we read about the end of Jehoshaphat’s reign. The passage seems to follow the same pattern as the other kings, but there are a couple of pieces of information that I think we should pay attention to.

Even though it says he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, it mentions he didn’t remove the high places. It’s a reminder that God desires unwavering faithfulness from His people, which takes constant vigilance to remember and follow all His commands, not just most of them.

The mention of his alliance with Ahaziah is a reminder that we should trust in God alone, and not make alliances with others, which can lead to moral and spiritual trouble.

As you reflect on today’s passage and your own journey with God, what would a narrator say about your life? Ask God to reveal any areas that need your attention.

Pray for Aaron Cranton – Old Strathcona
 Abounding in Love Society
Our reputation amongst our homeless neighbours, as a group of people who are committed to fostering meaningful relationships continues to spread. As honest, mutually vulnerable friendships deepen, many are moved to change their circumstance and transition from hopelessness to hope. Many in our community who are homeless and marginalized are tremendously burdened by unforgiveness, shame, and guilt. In an attempt to ease their pain, many become addicted to a lifestyle of drugs, alcohol and toxic relationships. Many women living on the street have at one time been pressured into prostitution. We work to ensure that everybody understands our Father’s desire to be in a personal relationship with ALL His children. Pray that God would continue to work powerfully and effectively through the Old Strathcona Abounding in Love Society to bring thorough and lasting transformation to our neighbours on the street.
