2 Chronicles 22:1-9
Reflect
After the death of his Father, Ahaziah is made the king of Judah. Scripture tells us that Ahaziah was no better than his Father, Jehoram, and did evil in the eyes of the Lord. This passage also tells us that his mother encouraged him to act wickedly and that his Father’s advisors became his. With people like this surrounding him, it is not surprising that he too acted in ways that opposed God’s plan for his people. His reign as king did not last long, as he died a year later.
What stands out to me from this story is the importance of the people around us. Not just the people we work with and live with and love, but the people we let into our inner circle, the people we let influence us. We get to decide who we listen to, who we let counsel us, whose words matter. Do these people want the best for us? Are they people that push us in the direction of loving Jesus more? Are they walking with God and become more like Jesus themselves?
Take a minute to think about who these people are in your life.
