2 Chronicles 22:10-23:11
Reflect
After seven years of rule by Athaliah, Jehoiada the priest finally got up his courage and took action to get rid of the idolatrous ruler. To confront the queen with the demands of God’s law was supposed to be the role of every priest in every generation. Tragically, many priests shied away from this duty and thus only a few made a difference in the nation.
Although it could have cost him his life, the priest did what was right, restoring the temple worship and anointing the new king.
How can we effectively change our government injustices? We are blinded by our own ideas of righteousness. Jesus hung on the cross and said, “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do”. He didn’t say those words stoically, He said them with compassion, conviction, mercy and love. His heart was breaking for those that were crucifying Him. I feel that this is the same attitude the Father wants us to have towards governments and others in order to be effective. Yes, there are people that can be actively participating, but for most of us, our active participation is forgiving them and praying for them to have godly wisdom. I believe this keeps our hearts like Jesus’—full of compassion, conviction, mercy and love. It changes things in the spirit realm.
