2 Chronicles 26:1-23

Reflect

I’ve been a part of youth ministry for about 16 years now, and I can definitely say that there aren’t many 16-year-olds I’d be confident making king over a nation, leading their people and commanding their army.

Uzziah was 16 years old when he became king over Judah. He was brought up with a healthy fear of the Lord, and actively sought God as he ruled. And it went really well for quite a while! But as is often the case, his success brought power, power led to pride, pride turned into anger, and this became his eventual downfall. He was banned from the temple and lived out the rest of his days isolated and alone while his son took over the palace and leadership of the people.

There is a lot more to the story than this, but one of the turning points seems to be when the priests came and confronted Uzziah about burning incense in the temple. In that moment, he could have humbly received their correction and returned to his rightful responsibilities, but instead he raged against the priests and wouldn’t listen.

Apply

How willing are we to receive correction? Would we humbly listen and change, or would we lash out and be angry?
