Devotional Guide for Wednesday, August 10

2 Chronicles 28:16-27

Reflect

Reading the dreadfully bizarre practices of King Ahaz makes me wonder what he was thinking. You might recall Isaiah’s interaction with Ahaz. No doubt you’re familiar with the prophecy (Is.7:14). Yup, this is the same Ahaz.

It would seem that Ahaz doesn’t deny Yahweh, he simply is resigned to believing that, sure He exists, but He must be taking care of the universe and overlooking the dealings of the small people on the tiny planet. Certainly, the images from the James Webb telescope reveal that there is a lot of creation to tend to.

Do you ever relate to Ahaz in thinking that you must take of things yourself because clearly God must be occupied elsewhere?

Walk with me.

See over there, that’s a burning bush speaking to a guy that has lost his sense of calling.

Look over there. That’s Hagar, she has been abandoned and is feeling all alone with no one to journey with her.

How about one more? See that ridiculed teenager? She will deliver the Saviour of the World, so that all humanity can know that the God of the universe is the same God that loves every one of us.

Apply

What separates you from experiencing the humble gift of God’s love for you?
Will you now go into this world and share this love with someone that is feeling very alone?
