Devotional Guide for Tuesday, August 9

2 Chronicles 28:1-15

Reflect

Judah is led back into paganism and its detestable practices by King Ahaz. They are spiritually dead and in bondage by the choices they have made. What is true spiritually becomes a reality when Judah is handed over to Israel. Interestingly, compare the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) with the actions of the soldiers in Samaria in verses 14-15. This parable has roots in recorded history. At a point of great loss and humiliation, there was mercy from an unexpected source.

There are times when we observe the world around us and believe it is up to followers of Christ to fight against moral decay, spiritual blindness, and detestable practices. But we are not without guilt ourselves. It is ultimately God who judges. We may feel led to take a stand on certain issues, but can we do so in a way that reflects both the mercy of God and humility in our posture?
