2 Chronicles 33:21-25
Reflect
In these few short verses, I see tremendous tragedy. Sure, I’ve not spoken with King Amon; however, I walked among many “Amons”.
These are young men that are trying to find their way in life, even while they feel a tremendous pressure to perform. Often this leads them to embrace an ungodly habit or lifestyle. Sometimes a person’s insecurity can be noticed by others; however, many people become quite capable of wearing the mask that is acceptable in culture, and perhaps even desired. Insecurity can result in a person being quiet and reserved, loud and outlandish, or capable and winsome.
Amon’s father had horrific flaws; however, he did humble himself (v23), and perhaps saw himself as the person that God called him to be. Amon did not. His life ended tragically short. His legacy is not evident as his son served very differently.
Insecurity comes from a lack of having a godly identity. When we don’t know who we are in Christ, it’s no surprise that we lose our way.
Amon’s false gods looked a lot different than the false gods that distract us. However, they have the same result. We miss our calling.
