2 Chronicles 35:20-36:1
Reflect
As a culture, we tend to shy away from things like grief and lament, but they are such an important part of how we process life and death and the hard things that come our way. After Josiah died, even though he wasn’t a perfect leader, Jeremiah took the time to compose laments so the people could mourn the loss of their leader, and these became a tradition in Israel.
We tend to try and move past grief, lament and mourning as fast as possible because it makes other people uncomfortable, or it can just be hard to be present to those thoughts and feelings. But we can be confident in the truth that we aren’t alone in our lamenting. Jesus knows what it’s like to feel these feelings of loss. He experienced that when He was on earth. I believe that if we allow ourselves space to lament and grieve the losses in our lives, God can use those moments to draw us closer to Him and His heart.

Is there something that you haven’t allowed yourself to grieve? What would it look like to allow yourself some space today to lament? Are there trusted people around that can sit with you as you open yourself up to these hard feelings?
