Ezra 6:1-22
Reflect
In the spring we looked at the Sermon on the Mount which includes Jesus’ teaching on prayer. In the Lord’s Prayer Jesus calls us to pray for the kingdom and will of God to be completed here on earth. The reality of that prayer is that God will accomplish all that He sets out to do, no matter what. There are many lists available to show the unlikely people that God has used to accomplish His will here on earth. This is just a small sampling of such a list: Noah got drunk. Abraham was too old. Isaac was a daydreamer. Jacob lied. Joseph was abused. Moses was a murderer and couldn’t talk. Gideon was afraid. Rahab was a prostitute. David was a murderer and adulterer. Isaiah preached naked. Jonah ran from God. Job went bankrupt. John the Baptist ate bugs. Peter denied Christ. The disciples fell asleep while praying. Martha worried about everything. Mary Magdalene was demon possessed. Zacchaeus was too small. And Lazarus was dead! Why would it surprise us to see that God chose to use the support of pagan kings to rebuild the temple?

Where might God surprise us with how He will advance his kingdom here in our world?
