Devotional Guide for Saturday, September 3

Nehemiah 6:1-16

Reflect

There were many different distractions that could have taken Nehemiah’s attention away from rebuilding the wall. There were both threats from outside, from other nations, and deceit from inside. But he didn’t let any of those disruptions steer him off track from the job he was called to do. And because of that, this wall that had been in ruins for nearly a century and a half were rebuilt in only 52 days.

Is there something that is distracting you from something you believe God is calling you to do? Maybe it’s not rebuilding a wall, but perhaps God has put it on your heart to serve in a certain way, or to join a ministry and use your talents to glorify Him, or to pursue some kind of opportunity. Sometimes these opportunities seem like really daunting projects, but maybe if we got past all the distractions, it won’t be such a big deal after all.

What is God inviting you into today? Can you identify the distractions that are getting in the way? What would it look like for you to remain focused on the thing that God is calling you to do today?
