Devotional Guide for Thursday, September 8

Acts 2:14-41

Reflect

“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” (v36). Our passage today gives us the answer Peter gives to the crowd’s response to God at work in their midst. Peter reminds and informs the crowd of what the prophets have spoken about Jesus. At the end of his response, we get to verse 36 and I love verse 37.  “When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”  Peter’s response: repent, be baptized and you will also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

In today’s passage, the people noticed the work of God in their midst. At first they didn’t identify it correctly, yet they knew something was different.

I’ve been challenged lately to be more attentive to the work of God in my daily life and am trying to pay more attention to “God sightings” and to not brush them off as something other than the work of God in our world today. Will you join me in paying attention?

Pray for Becki Lee – AIA (Power to Change)

Becki Lee has been on staff for 16 years with Athletes in Action (AIA), the sports ministry of Power to Change, most recently at the University of Guelph in Guelph, ON. The mission of AIA is to “help people know Jesus and experience his power to change the world through sport. During Becki’s recent sabbatical, she spent some time doing day hikes, going with her Dad on their fifth father-daughter summer baseball road trip, and spent some time of quiet reflection and prayer at a Retreat Centre. Praise God for a new roommate that He has provided her, and for a refreshing sabbatical. Please pray for spirit led preparation and planning for the upcoming school year; for the AIA Guelph leaders; and for open hearts and good connections with new athletes, especially first years, heading into the fall semester.
