Devotional Guide for Wednesday, September 14

Acts 4:23-37

Reflect

Following Jesus involves having a firm foundation from which we go out to serve the poor. Today’s passage reveals this clearly. In v.24, the prayer begins with “Sovereign Lord…”. The prayer continues by mentioning the horrific pain done to Jesus. In v.28, “they” together identified that God predestined all this to happen. Sovereignty… predestination…suffering. It was not the Gentiles, the Jews, not even Satan put Jesus on the cross. The Father, in His ultimate authority, and His supreme love, fulfilled His plan through the suffering servant. He did that for the salvation of you and me. There was purpose beyond the struggle.

If that suffering beyond comprehension occurred to the only perfect human being by the will of God, what does that say about the struggles that I am experiencing? That you are facing?

Are we to say only that God “allowed” it? Daily I pray to the Sovereign Lord, and I praise His predestined calling upon me. He only does that which is perfect and good. So, I embrace the reality that my current journey is a struggle. I also embrace God’s sovereignty and trust that He will provide me with what it takes to conquer this battle for the glory of His name.

What is your struggle? Will you identify God’s working will amid the battle? You are loved by the Sovereign God that powerfully calls you to follow Jesus.
Let’s chat.
