Preparation for Sunday, November 6

Revelation 2:18-29

Today Pastor Lyle will continue a series of sermons on the letters written by Jesus to seven different first-century churches that are recorded in Revelation 2 and 3. This morning we’ll explore the fourth letter, which was written to the church in the ancient city of Thyatira. In this city known for its trade guilds, a number of people in the church were participating in the pagan worship of the patron gods of these guilds. There seems to have been a compartmentalizing of their faith in which their religious world was separate from their everyday occupational world. Jesus warns these people of the consequences of trying to straddle two worlds, when in truth, Jesus has ultimate authority over all.
