Colossians 1:1-14
Reflect
In our devotional guide this week we will be looking at the letter to the Colossians. The city of Colosse is very close to the city of Laodicea, which is the last of the seven churches of Revelation that Jesus wrote to. In the ESV, verses 12 and 13 use the terms qualified, delivered, transferred.
While these terms sound much like what happens to a much-awaited Amazon order, the reality of these words is so much better than getting a delivery to our door.
In Paul’s context, qualifying speaks of being found worthy. Delivered expresses freedom gained. Transferred communicates a movement into a new destination. The good news is that these terms describe what God does to us when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. We are qualified to receive a heavenly inheritance, delivered out of the kingdom of darkness, and transferred into the kingdom where Jesus reigns. These are some of the reasons why Paul encourages thanksgiving among the believers in Colosse.

How about you? As a Christian, these terms describe your situation too! What amazing news! Truly a reason to give thanks.
