Colossians 4:2-18
Reflect
Paul closes the letter to the Colossians with a number of final greetings and a few further instructions, one of which is connected to an instruction from the very first chapter of the book.
In our reading today we see the instruction, “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity,” and in chapter 1 we saw the prayer from Paul that we would “live a life worthy of the Lord.” Both are instructions that include every aspect of our life. It’s not just about the words we say, but it's how we live.
We’re instructed to live the whole of our lives in a way that is worthy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because that is our testimony to the world around us, specifically the people that don’t know Jesus yet. That is how “outsiders” or people who don’t follow Jesus will see the difference Jesus makes in our life. It’s not just about doing the church thing on Sunday, but living the rest of our week in a way that would point people to Jesus.
Apply
As you go into this day, ask God for some wisdom in how you can “make the most of every opportunity” today.
