Devotional Guide for Monday, November 28

Isaiah 40:1-11

Reflect

Our word “advent” comes out of the Latin words ad and venire which mean “to” and “come”. Within the Christian church, Advent has become synonymous with the four Sundays and four weeks leading up to Christmas Day. Each Sunday and the week following, we focus in on one of four virtues that come to us with the coming of Christ.

This week at McKernan we focus in on love. During these days we celebrate that Love has come. With the coming of Christ, we can now read the words of Isaiah 40 and know that Christ brings us comfort.  He paves the way to the Father, removing the obstacles and becoming The Way.

Christ also comes as the Word. In the Gospel of John chapter one we see Jesus is the Word that will stand forever. Jesus also reminds us in John 10 how His love is expressed as He shepherds us as His sheep.

Apply

As we enter into this first week of Advent, I pray that we all will experience the comfort of Love that has come to us in Emmanuel, God with us.
