Luke 2:1-20
Reflect
I wonder what it would have been like for the shepherds to hear this message from the angels. I wonder what they were talking about before the angel appeared. Maybe they were talking about something that was happening in their family. Or maybe they were discussing some of their country’s current events. It’s all hypothetical of course, but whatever it was, what started out as probably a pretty normal night took a dramatic turn, really quickly. The angel announced the good news, and the great company of heavenly host praised God. What a scene that would have been!
I’m struck by how the heavenly hosts choose to praise God. They first declare glory to God, but then what is the gift that they declare towards humanity? Peace.
There was obviously a lot for the shepherds to be very excited about, but I wonder if before they went to go see Jesus, if they were able to just take a deep breath, and imagine what that peace would mean for them.
