Devotional Guide for Saturday, December 31

Proverbs 3:1-8

Reflect

There are many things we trust in every day without even thinking. We trust that the chair we sit in will hold. That the bridges we drive across will get us safely to the other side. That gravity will keep our feet firmly on the ground.

Those are just a few silly examples, but the reality is that we all trust in something or someone. It could be a relationship, or our job, our government, or even ourselves. Verse 5 in the passage today tells us to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” It is tempting to lean on our own understanding. When things happen that don’t make sense, or when we have to wait for an answer from God, it can seem easier to go with our own wisdom. The invitation in this verse is to trust God, not just with most things or some things but with ALL of our hearts. With everything. We can trust God because He has all the information. Our own understanding is limited.

We can trust in God because we know He is good, that He loves us, and He is wise.

What would it look like to trust God more today? What situation do you want to submit to Him?
