John 3:1-8

Reflect

According to Statistics Canada, the average number of births per year from the past five years was 370,000. This is an easy number to find. A simple Google search reveals this number almost instantly.  For most of these births, I assume there was some sort of celebration (some big, some small) welcoming a new life into this world. However, it is not as easy to find out how many Canadians are born again each year. What we do know with absolute certainty, is that for each Canuck (and every person around the world) who does repent of their sin and confess Jesus is Lord, there is a party in heaven (see Luke 15:7).

Nicodemus comes to Jesus at night, and Jesus takes this opportunity to further educate this very educated man about the necessity of a second birth. In John 1:12-13 we read about this kind of birth that is initiated from God. Gary L. McIntosh, in his book “Growing God’s Church”, indicated that many people who come to Christ do so through the influence of family and friends. We know that conversion is brought about by God, but we have a role to play. Who might you be able to share with today?
