John 4:43-54
Reflect
The story today is a relatable one. A sick son, a desperate father. Many of us have been in situations where we have walked alongside sick family members. Maybe you can understand the father’s desperation. He would have done anything for his son. Jesus had visited Cana earlier when He turned water into wine at a wedding. The father in the story begs Jesus to heal his son. Jesus’ response is interesting: “unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe” (v48).
The father persists and Jesus does heal his son. The cool thing is that Jesus doesn’t come to the bedside of the sick son. The miracle isn’t performed in front of a crowd. Jesus merely tells the father to go and that his son will live! This is noteworthy - the man took Jesus at His word and left. He believed that Jesus would do what He said He would do. He didn’t need to see the miracle and he didn’t need a sign. His faith wasn’t in the miracle but in the word of Christ.

What does it look like to take Jesus at His word? What is one way God is inviting you to do this in 2023?
