Devotional Guide for Wednesday, February 1

John 9:13-41

Reflect

Mud and saliva used to heal blindness. Interrogation. Spiritual power abuse. Passionate confession. Wonder. Denial. This passage just keeps avalanching with enough content to write a book, let alone a 230-word devotional! Please allow me to pick up a couple of lines that may have become buried under the storm. The power holders said, “We know that God has spoken to Moses…”(v29). What follows reveals that the spiritual authorities accepted that God “spoke” (past tense). They did not accept that God is still speaking.

Referring to prayers given to God, v31 “…God listens…”. God speaks and God listens. Last Sunday and this coming Sunday, you will receive lots of teaching on listening prayer. It is possible that this is the third devotional you’ve read today and you still have two more to go. How about we read less and practice more? If you don’t have another 10-15 minutes, come back later.

Read vv.35-41 slowly. Listen as Jesus gives you a word or a phrase. Read it again.

Slow down and ask these questions, pausing to attentively listen as Jesus speaks:
Jesus, help me to see where I have attempted to put your message of freedom in a box. Listen to Jesus.
Jesus what is on your heart for me to see? Listen to Jesus.
Jesus, in v35 you go to the outcast. To what outcast are you guiding me to see? Listen.
I would love to hear how Jesus spoke with you.
