Hebrews 3:1-6
Reflect
La Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, TWA’s terminal at JFK Airport (both in New York City), and The Gerkin in London. These are some significant buildings that stand out from their surroundings. As impressive as they may be, they all started out as an idea in the mind of an architect. For these structures we can thank Antoni Gaudi, Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, and Norman Foster respectively. Perhaps more impressive than the structures themselves are the people who thought it possible to form and fashion iron and stone, bricks and mortar, wood and glass into the “buildings as art” that they have become.
Here in Hebrews the writer reminds us that we are a house. We have been put together by the greatest architect ever. Individually our bodies are a temple (1 Corinthians 6:19) that the Holy Spirit comes to reside in when we come to faith in Jesus Christ. Together we are being built into a spiritual house (1 Peter 2:4-5) that is grounded in Jesus Christ. As great and beautiful as we are individually and collectively, Jesus is far greater and far more beautiful.
