Preparation for Sunday, March 5

Romans 6:1-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32

Today we will continue to look at the practice of “Corporate Worship.”  As part of this practice, it is appropriate that we take a closer look at two “ordinances” that we observe as a church.  We use the word “ordinance,” which means “authoritative order,” because we believe Christ has commanded His followers to be baptized and to partake in Communion.  While these observances are rich in symbolism, it is easy for their meaning and impact to get lost in the midst of repetition and become mere actions of religious ritual. This morning we will examine what the Bible says about these two practices that are a vital part of the corporate worship of the church.
