Devotional Guide for Wednesday, March 8

Hebrews 4:1-13

Reflect

A few months ago, I was surrounded by a gang of masked people; one of them used a very sharp knife to cut me wide open. He cut me deep, separating the joints of my body, and I was grateful.

Many translations try to soften the meaning of verse 1. However, it calls us to fear missing the rest of God. The passage flows on with a bold calling for us to not be easily satisfied with a God-less rest. Rather “strive” (v11), it takes effort to truly rest.

True, the Word of God (v12), includes written Scriptures. However, I am in good company when I contend that this is the Living God personally speaking. He doesn’t wear a mask, and even the sharpest of scalpels would be considered dull in comparison to the way that His Word does surgery on our soul. He is intensely motivated to make us well. He loves you so much that He has not left you alone to figure out how to navigate life. His Word pierces the depths of who we are and transforms us from the inside out.

Prayer

My God, my God, I pray for your Great Physician work in my soul. Rid me of all spiritual dis-ease. Cleanse me of the bacteria of ungodly thoughts and intentions. Guide me to those you call me to show and tell of your marvelous ability to make a person well. I pray for the spread of your health to the ends of the earth. Amen
