Hebrews 6:1-12
Reflect
I have loved every minute of being an aunt. It has been so fun to see my nieces and nephews grow up from babies to teenagers. I remember observing the important time in their development when they went from drinking only milk to eating solid food. It was a bit of a process, but slowly they learned how to eat whole foods, hold a utensil, and get most of it in their mouths! How strange would it be for an adult to still only be drinking milk! Part of coming to maturity is learning this important skill.
The writer of Hebrews is addressing a similar problem. His audience are Jewish Christians who had turned from a trust in Levitical law to a trust in Christ as the one who fulfilled the law. Some were being tempted to return to the law and how they had done things before. The writer is urging them to press on to solid food and embrace the truth of Christ under a new covenant.
Apply
As Christians today, we too are urged to press on to maturity, to seek to know God through His Word and to communicate with Him through prayer. Take some time to ask God to grow your faith in Him and develop you into a mature disciple of Christ.
