Devotional Guide for Saturday, April 15

Acts 1:1-11

Reflect

There’s an interesting dichotomy at play in this passage today. As Jesus is giving His commands to the apostles before He was taken up to heaven, He first tells them to not leave Jerusalem but to wait to be filled with the Holy Spirit. And then just a few verses later, He says that they will be His witnesses to Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Stay, and go. Wait to receive the things that you’re going to need, but once you do, get going!

Sometimes we can get stuck in one or the other. We can rush into what we think God is calling us to without waiting for His leading. Or we can get stuck in the waiting for God’s leading, and miss the opportunity to go. Both require discernment.

Apply

Spend some time asking God today, “Is there anything I need to be waiting for, or are You calling me to go now?” If it’s a big decision, bring some other trusted believers into the discernment process. And then take the next step of obedience, whatever that may be.
