Genesis 11:10-12:5

Reflect

Have you ever been “called” to do something that seemed to challenge what you know to be your normal routine? Have you ever been challenged to step out in faith even though you don’t know how it will turn out?

Today we read that the Lord told Abram to leave all he knew, all his people, all he was comfortable with and go to a land unknown to Abram, but the Lord would direct him to it. God was calling Abram out of his culture to take him to a new place.

Verse 12 gives us the picture that Abram was prompt with his obedience to God. It says, “So Abram left…” Abram’s obedience was grounded in his faith in who God was. What a great picture of who Abram was. A man who had great faith in God and was quick to be obedient.

What about you? Is God calling you to leave the culture you are in right now to a place where God will use you to make a difference? How will you respond to the Lord’s call?

Missionary of the Week – Paul Tan (Navigators)

Paul is serving with the Navigators of Canada as campus leader at the University of Alberta and Edmonton’s City leader, supervising the other Navigator staff in Edmonton. The Navigators dive deep in the life-giving Word and equip Christ-followers to disciple others, sharing their faith and helping others to know Jesus. Through conversation about life and God, Paul invites people to read one of the Gospels together and discover Jesus afresh. He walks alongside those who are coming to understand they are ambassadors of Jesus Christ, teaching them how to study and obey the Scriptures and coaching them how to journey with friends who don’t yet know Jesus. That journey includes walking alongside people through the whole of life—the joys and sorrows, relational struggles, grief, depression, and anxiety.
