Devotional Guide for Saturday, May 13

Genesis 18:16-33

Reflect

Today’s passage is an interesting story of Abraham interacting with these three visitors, and specifically the Lord, as Abraham pleads for the people of Sodom. In this story, we learn about God’s heart for righteousness, and Abraham’s heart of compassion for the people of Sodom. As Abraham learns of the Lord’s purpose, and learns more about the Lord’s heart, he is driven by compassion to intercede on the city’s behalf so that the Lord might spare them.

It’s not too hard to look around our own city and see the challenges and the need for Jesus. As we read through the rest of Scripture, all the way to Revelation, we can see God’s heart for humanity and His plan for eternity. When we combine that knowledge we have, and the deep need we see around us, like Abraham did, we also should be driven to prayer for our city and the people in our lives that don’t know Jesus yet.

I encourage you to spend some time interceding on behalf of our city, that people would turn their hearts to Jesus.
