Genesis 22:1-19
Reflect
Are you familiar with the story of George Müller? Müller lived from 1805 to 1898 much of his life in Bristol, England. In 1836 Müller and his wife Mary Groves began an orphanage ministry in Bristol using their own rented home to house 30 children. Not long after, the Müller’s had three houses and cared for 130 children. By 1845 the orphanages became a source of complaints for the neighbours, so Müller commissioned a home at Ashley Down in Bristol for 300 children which was completed in 1849. By 1870, 1,722 children were being housed in 5 houses. These 5 homes had a value of over £100,000.00 British pounds. What makes this all the more significant is that through all this Müller never asked for financial support, and never went into debt. Müller entrusted this ministry and all that was needed for it to be sustained to the Lord in prayer.
Abraham trusted that God was going to provide. And in God’s timing a suitable sacrifice was provided. How often do we get consumed by worry about whether or not God will take care of us? God is faithful, He is Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides.
