Devotional Guide for Friday, May 26

Genesis 25:1-18
Reflect

As we continue journeying through Genesis, we are finally met with Abraham’s last breath. Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac, died a good old age, lived a life of full years, and was gathered to his people (body and soul was buried with deceased ancestors). As we read of his obituary, there is a strong sense that he lived a life of faith that pleased God. This was truly a life that witnessed to the amazing kindness, faithfulness, and blessing of God.

When we reflect on the life of Abraham and the covenant that was made, we see an overarching story of God’s ability to overcome obstacles while fulfilling His promises – Abraham's life testified to those truths no matter how long it took.

19th century Rev. Phillip Brooks writes, “Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be the miracle.”

In what ways have you seen God’s promises fulfilled in your life as you reflect on the past and present?

Faith was passed down from Abraham to Isaac. In what ways have you discipled the next generation to be carriers of faith to the world?
