Devotional Guide for Monday, June 5

Genesis 29:31-30:24

Reflect

There is so much in this passage:
-Jacob being deceived in the same way he deceived Esau and Isaac
-Leah being hated and all she wanted was to be loved
-Generational iniquity
-Taking matters into their own hands instead of waiting on God

Both Rachel and Leah took matters into their own hands when they wanted children and told Jacob to lie with their maidservants, Bilhah and Zilpah (just like Jacob’s grandmother Sarah had done with Hagar, her maidservant).

Jacob loved Rachel. The Lord saw that Leah was unloved and opened her womb. Leah had 6 sons and one daughter before Rachel was given any children. Through these 4 women, Jacob had 12 sons which God would make into the 12 tribes of Israel. Leah was the mother of Levi that was the tribe of the priesthood, Judah became the tribe of royalty through which the promised seed came in the person of Jesus Christ. God always has a purpose and plan.

Apply
Is there any situation you’ve been trying to control and need to bring to God today?
We must believe God is in control. He has a purpose and plan for everything in our life. God knows your need, your desires and loves you. He will bring good out of all we encounter.
