Devotional Guide for Thursday, June 8

Genesis 31:22-55

Reflect

When we look at the narrative of Jacob, today’s passage gives us a picture of Jacob experiencing a bit of role reversal. His time with Laban was a bit like his time with his brother and father, being tricked out of something he thought he had earned or had a right to.

I think it is easy for us to read these passages and think we wouldn’t be like Jacob, tricking our family out of something that is rightfully theirs, or manipulating the situation so that it favours us. But if we are honest, there is a bit of Jacob in all of us.

God intervenes into the life of Jacob, and God will intervene in our lives as well. It is best if we give credit to God for the successes we have instead of claiming them for ourselves.

As you approach your day, your week, this upcoming month, etc., why not allow God to speak into your plans and direction and then walk with God into the plans He has for you.

Missionary of the Week – John Webster (YoungLife South Edmonton)

Young Life is a Christian mission that loves teenagers in their world and encourages them to know Jesus Christ. We go to where kids are and build personal relationships with them. We provide fun, adventures, and life-changing experiences. We do this working alongside like-minded adults who believe that every teen deserves the right to hear God’s news. Recently I have entered a new position with Young Life as I oversee Young Life in all of Alberta as the Regional Director. I am excited about meeting teens in their world but now have the privilege to start new YL areas in the province and develop our staff and volunteers. It has been a tremendous year for both Janelle and me as we just recently adopted our daughter McKinley! We are beyond grateful for God’s goodness and are thankful for the support of McKernan Baptist and its members.
