Reflect
In the middle of an extensive famine, we see Joseph settling his family in Goshen. What happens next in this chapter is a detailed account of the damage of the famine and how Joseph was able to bring the people in Egypt and Canaan through it.
The people struggled so severely that they reached a point where they had nothing left to exchange for food but their land and their service.
What is interesting to observe is that Jacob’s family isn’t mentioned in this part. If we look one verse further than today’s reading, we actually observe that they were fruitful and increasing in number!
What can this point us to today? In the middle of crisis and chaos or challenging world events, the church can continue to be fruitful. The church can continue to grow and continue to make disciples. The temptation can be to hunker down, or self protect, or survive. But we have hope in Christ! We have hope for a future with Jesus and the promise of the Holy Spirit for today. Hope that God will continue to move and work through all circumstances.
How is he moving in your life today?
