Devotional Guide for Thursday, July 13

Exodus 3:11-21

Reflect

This is a passage packed with so much goodness.

Fact: God is revealing Himself directly to a person, something that had not been done for 400 years, like the long absence prior to the arrival of Jesus.

Fact: Moses is quick to come up with many excuses as to why he cannot possibly fulfil his calling. “Who am I?” “Who are you?”

Fact: God entices Moses with an early version of prosperity gospel by having him envision “milk (likely from goats!) and honey (indicating vibrant crops)” and then even silver and gold!

Fact: this whole conversation has as its purpose the calling to go and free people from the bondage that they are living in.

Can you relate to Moses? I can. I am filled with excuses about why I can’t passionately push through the things that are holding me back. Way too often I am trapped in limiting myself as I think about who I am rather than about who God is.

Fast forward and Jesus tells us that God’s Spirit is always with us; but not just with us, He is in us. Breath in the fullness of the Spirit.

Today there are still people that God loves who are living in bondage.

What do you believe about God that keeps you from fully abandoning yourself to Him?

God is calling you to have the courage to go to that person with the message of grace and freedom. Will you go?
