Every so often Christians fall into the trap of this world’s values and struggle toward earthly goals. We believe that these achievements are the things that fulfil our purpose in life, and so they are worth the struggle and the endurance. But this thinking is not right. The Bible reminds us to keep our eyes on Heaven and to not make Earth our treasure. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.” … Matthew 6:19. While we are still in the world, we need to know that we have a purpose to fulfill as believers, which is to be a witness of the Gospel of Christ to the world. Our hope is not in earthly riches because we will not take them with us. We can enjoy the blessings that God has given us that this world has to offer but we cannot allow ourselves to be attached to them. Worldly things or values cannot be our reason for living because they may end up becoming a god to us. The Bible is very clear, Deuteronomy 5:7, “You shall have no other gods before me.”
