Exodus 12:31-51
Reflect
Freedom! What do you think that must have felt like? For generations the children of Israel had been slaves to the people of Egypt. Finally, 430 years to the day after this little family had come into Egypt looking for help, they were set free, numbering perhaps around 2 million souls. This nation who had known nothing but slavery was now pushed out, told to get out. In going, they took much of Egypt’s wealth with them. This newfound freedom came upon them suddenly, and with little preparation they struck out for a place they could call their own.
In John 10 Jesus tells us He came that we might have life, not merely an existence, but a full life. Jesus came to set us free from the slavery we once lived in. Slavery to sin, slavery to a life apart from God. Wandering as a people without a home and an identity. Because of what Christ has done we are free, we are God’s people and we have a home. If you are familiar with the story of the exodus you will remember that there is going to be grumbling, even longing for the life that was left in Egypt. Let’s not long for being slaves to sin, let’s live the life that Jesus paid for by His death on the cross. You are free!
