Devotional Guide for Tuesday, August 1

Exodus 15:1-21

Reflect

One morning during Covid I was cycling to church. My heart was heavy. I caught up to a Dad and his little girl on their bikes. The little girl sang a song. I didn’t hear the words but it was like my burden lifted instantly. As I cycled on, God put a song on my lips and I smiled. What power and beauty God gives us in music!

The song in today's passage, works two ways:

It is relief for the Israelites: the threat of the enemy lifted.

But also thanks and praise to God’s salvation they had just witnessed
“The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
This is my God, and I will praise Him;” (v2)

In Tim Mahoney’s documentary films “Patterns of Evidence” you can’t help but marvel at the huge miracle and testimony God displayed with His ways for His people.

A profound picture of what happened over a thousand years later when He sent His son and rescued us. What depth of mystery and miracle!

Apply

God's salvation is unfathomable, let us praise and thank Him with our songs.
Not good at singing? Try an instrument or hum along. Or praise Him with writing a poem.
When in trouble and turmoil, listen to worship songs and remember the mighty works of God, His faithfulness and promises!
