Exodus 15:22-27

Reflect

In this passage, the Israelites are now freed after going through the Red Sea. For the past four hundred years, the Israelites did know God as their God, they knew Him just as He is God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Exodus 6:6-8). As a chosen people in Christ, we can learn lessons from these stories.

The Israelites were overjoyed with the way God had led out them from Egypt. However, after a few days in the desert and not finding water, their joy changed to grumbling! Moses cried out to the Lord and God turned the bitter water into water that was fit to drink! (Exodus15:1-21).

In Exodus 15:25-26 God tested His people. He commanded that if people would listen and obey God, it would bring blessings upon them. If the people did not listen and obey His commands, He would bring judgement and punishment upon them as it had been in Egypt under slavery. When they came to Elim, they found enough water and shade and camped there. God showed them that “I am the Lord, who heals you” (v26b).

What lessons we can take from this story, as Christians, as chosen people in Christ?

  1. We need Someone to follow because we live in a world corrupted by sin. We seek and are led by God through the reading and application of His Word, the Bible.
  2. Living in a sinful world will bring to us different problems, issues, and discomforts. We can find solutions to our problems in the Bible, God’s Word.
  3. God wants to see our obedience to His Word. His commandments are still valid.

May you be blessed as you hear and follow God’s Word faithfully.
