Psalm 124

Reflect

“If the Lord had not been on our side…“. Have you ever taken the time to reflect on this statement in relation to your own life? Have you looked back on situations and wondered where God was at, or involved in the outcome of those situations?

Verses 2-7 share what could have happened to the people of Israel if God had not been on their side. This passage describes the enemy in many different ways: raging waters, wild animals and snares. It also reveals that human power is not going to be effective in defending or defeating the enemy.

What I appreciate about this Psalm is how the people recognize God’s place in the daily activities of their lives. They walk in the belief that their help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Where are you placing your trust for help in your day-to-day life? Can you proclaim verse 8 as truth for your life.

Pray for Brianna Ramer (All Nations Centre)

After spending about 5 years as an elementary teacher, the Lord called me into ministry. Since then, I’ve been working as the volunteer coordinator at the All Nations Centre in downtown Edmonton. We serve newcomers with the love of Jesus through: running English classes, helping with paperwork, advocacy (for proper living situations, jobs, with the government, etc.) assisting with children’s homework, and hosting community events. Often, when people hear the word ‘newcomers’ they associate it with Ukrainian refugees, so they’re surprised to hear that the Centre is in a primarily Somalian neighbourhood and most often serves those from the Horn of Africa. I work with, schedule, and onboard new volunteers as the volunteer coordinator. I also teach English classes, help develop our curriculum, plan events and fill other roles as needed. Thank you for your prayers.
